In an effort to make Kolkata a Cleaner and Greener place to live Srijan Realty joined hands with Indian Army for an Urban Plantation Drive 2019 in Kolkata Maidan and Fort William. Adequate tree cover is an essential link in the bio-diversity chain, and to create sustainable and livable urban areas.

“Srijan Realty is committed to make Kolkata sustainable, healthy and energy efficient city. Thus preservation of green spaces is very important for both health and economy, they make urban areas a joy to live, work and invest in,” said Mr Pawan Agarwal – Director, Srijan Realty.

He also thanked the Indian Army for the association and pledged to make the City Cleaner and Greener. The plantation programme was uniquely devised with Srijan’s commitment to not only plant 1000 Trees in Kolkata Maidan and Fort William but also to maintain the trees for the next two years through periodic cleaning, watering, pruning, insect management and by spraying organic fertilizers.

What Indian Army belives

Indian Army believes in serving the people whether in war or peace. Pollution is the biggest environmental issue in the urban cities. Kolkata is less than 5% green whereas the national average is 19.49%. An IISc study showed that Kolkata’s tree cover fell from 23.4% to 7.3%over the last 20 years. Urban Tree Plantation today is essential for future generations. Trees reduces temperature by 8 degree celcius and reduces airconditioning needs by 30% thus saving energy, mature trees help in ground water recharge and mitigates climate change. Trees serve as excellent Filters for Pollutants and they improve physical and mental Health of humans, they also provide habitat to birds and animals.
